Dayton, Ohio Engagement photographer: Eddie & Lacey’s Country Picnic

This is Eddie & Lacey.

They met in college, and this is what Lacey had to say about their beginning:

“We met in class where I sat beside him and instantly fell for that perfect smile of his. We became friends by chatting before class and making fun of people in class,  and I knew I wanted to learn more about this man. I wanted to date and “get serious” but he wasn’t ready. We remained friends and when I transferred down to WSU we started hanging out again and this time the tables were turned. I was enjoying college life and just wanted to have fun. Eddie then went off to boot camp where we would write each other letters. When he came home we went out to Max and Ermas and I remember sitting at the table completely tuning out what he was talking about just thinking how this felt so right. And he had the same feeling. We’ve been together since.”

Their love is palpable, and i love how comfortable they are together. Eddie was only home on leave for a short time, and Lacey wanted to do a fun session that embodied the countryside, and reminded her of her childhood. We went to a family friend’s lovely home, and they played in the field, ate corn and watermelon, and snuggled in her great grandma’s quilt. Eddie is back in Iraq now, defending our freedom. He will be home soon, and in the meantime, their love and courage grows.

my fav. the way Lacey looks at him. (sigh)

and watching the sun dip behind the field of golden hay is just as good as any ocean sunset…

Pray for Eddie’s safe return, and that the time will fly for Lacey. I hope you have a beautiful Thursday.

xo.

Cincinnati, Ohio wedding photographer: A match made in Macy’s. {Brad &Christy}

i met with Brad & Christy last fall, and from the very beginning, i could see the connection they had with one another. Over Chipotle, they told me how they met. They both worked at Macy’s one sumer,  and their friends would tease them that they were “a match made in Macy’s” They are a perfect match. Beautiful Christy with her sweet nature, and Brad with his infectious grin and obvious adoration for the love of his life. They dated for 9 months, and then Brad asked her father for her hand at a UC game.  On June 17th, God united them in a beautiful ceremony.  What a privilege to be there for it! Congratulations to the Powers, you guys are amazing!

Brad surprised Christy with this little envelope necklace that carries a little note that says, “I love you”. He also added his own “note”.

how romantic is that? be still, my beating heart. he purchased it here.

Christy looked like English royalty.

Their first look was so touching. Brad was totally overwhelmed by his glorious bride. Tears of joy and amazement that he was this lucky.

some moments.

and now, the moment that still gives me butterflies, even after 50+ weddings. THE moment that all others will be built on for the rest of their lives.

When you are a guest at a wedding, you are invited to witness a miracle.

this has to be one of the hardest things a daddy ever does.

Brad is a hero. he is a firefighter. i have a weakness for firefighters, because my Brett is one as well.

the reception was full of love, laughter, and lots and lots of dancing.

my favorite cake shot of all time. period.

Cancer has touched both Brad & Christy’s families, and in lieu of thank yous, they made a donation to the American Cancer Society and passed out wristbands.

What an amazing, beautiful, perfect day!

love you, Brad & Christy! i know God has amazing things in store for you.

xx.

“Walking in a Winter wonderland” Dayton, Ohio Engagement and Wedding Photographer

i know that it is hot.. so hot. and i know that this past winter we were so ready for this weather. but it seems when it hits 95 degrees, we are driven indoors just like when it is 5 degrees. so  i had to share this beautiful engagement session with you today, maybe it will cool you off a little:)

this shoot was loosely themed after a beautiful Winter song that we know well. we often sing it with Christmas carols, but it is more winter than Christmas.

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?

In the lane, snow is glistening

A beautiful sight,

We’re happy tonight.

Walking in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird, here to stay is a new bird

He sings a love song as we go along,

Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,

Then pretend that he is Parson Brown.

He’ll say: ” Are you married?”

We’ll say: “No man,

But you can do the job when you’re in town.”

Later on, we’ll conspire as we dream by the fire

To face unafraid, The plans that we’ve made,

Walking in a winter wonderland.

When it snows, ain’t it thrilling,

Though your nose gets a chilling

We’ll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,

Walking in a winter wonderland.

Nick and Lindsay have an effortless easy kind of friendship love, and they take each other as they are, without judgement. Nick is a brave soldier defending our freedom, and Lindsay is so brave, too. i have a hard time imagining the pain and stress of my love in the line of fire everyday.

they just had the most beautiful wedding, and i will be blogging that soon.  until next time, stay cool!

xoxo~

a journey into Wildflowers: part 1

in june of this year, i had the most fortunate opportunity to go be part of something amazing: a workshop led by none other than Joy Prouty of Wildflowers Photography. if you have never had the pleasure of viewing her work, do yourself a favor and take a look (after you are finished reading this post of course! ) Joy is an amazing individual~ beautiful, unbelievably talented, and down to earth through it all. i, along with 22 other amazing women, went on this journey together into the aspects of our business, our hearts, and our lives to help each other come out the other side stronger, better, more able to capture each of you in a more emotional and meaningful way. we laughed ~ alot, and cried~ also a lot, but it was by far the best decision i have made for my business. stepping back away from everything, priorities, decisions and choices became more clear.

not to mention we were in the little town of Julian, California~ which is an amazing inspiration all in itself.

the first shoot that Joy set up for us were 2 precious little girls in what was supposed to be the gorgeous CA morning sunshine. But God knew better, and instead sent this graceful fog that curled around and provided the most gorgeous and unique lighting. i loved it~ in fact, i cannot wait to shoot in the fog again…

ok, i will quit rambling for now, and let you look…. enjoy.

xoxo.

stay tuned for part 2, ok?

“Joe & Kailey: a tea garden wedding” Dayton, Ohio wedding and engagement photography

this wedding was dear in every way. the love that so clearly showed in joe’s eyes when he looked at kailey. the air of a laid back summer wedding with closest friends and family. the way joe’s brother cried along with joe when kailey came down the aisle. joe and kailey are dearly loved, and it is easy to see why. kailey told me when we met that she wanted the wedding to have a spontaneous feeling, like they just decided to have a wedding at the last moment, and chose the beautiful Stonehedge Tearoom.  well done, guys! it was beautiful! best wishes on your new life~

kailey, you are amazingly beautiful.

“Dear Client…” {things your photographer wish you knew}

so i may be no where near a “seasoned” photographer, but after 4 years and hundreds of sessions, i have decided to compile a small list of dos & don’ts for anyone who is using a custom photographer (and most of us do.)  do with them what you want, think of it as friendly suggestion:)

*DON’T start your consultation with “i don’t want to spend a lot of money….” We understand that you have a budget, and it is commendable when you stick with it. but research your photographer, and know he is in your budget. it insults him as an artist, and says “you don’t seem very expensive valuable”  Totally not what you meant, but it is how it sounds to us.

*DO ask for wardrobe suggestions. that way if your photographer wants to style the shoot, everybody is on the same page. also, what you wear goes a long way to convey your tastes and style to your photographer, and she can get a great feel for who you are.

* DO choose your photographer carefully. if you don’t love his portfolio, chance are, you won’t be thrilled with your photos. while price and location definitely play a part in who you choose, style should always be the first factor.

*while on the shoot, DO trust your photographer! if you loved their portfolio, then they need your trust and cooperation to get the kind of shots you fell in love with. if you trust her, and do what she says, chances are you might make the portfolio too:)

*once the session is over, DON’T badger the photographer about when your pics will be done. if you were given a three week deadline, there is a reason. we often stay up till 3 am, sacrificing sleep by night and family time by day to give you the perfectly edited shots. it adds more stress to our load when you keep asking. trust me, we are dying for you to see them, and fall in love with them too!

*if your session includes a cd, DO print out your pics! this is one i am guilty of~ we all are. we are so busy. but “someday” is normally code for “never.” if you don’t get to it within 3 weeks of receiving your disc, you probably won’t do it. and you do a huge disservice to the professional who carefully crafted the photos to not give them a place of honor on your wall or in an album. more than that, you cheat yourself from enjoying the beauty of your family.

*and last, DO thank him or her who gave you your beautiful memories. we are artists, and most of us struggle with confidence at one time or another, wondering if you truly love what we did for you. don’t hesitate to tell them why you love your pictures…as a beautiful and well known photographer recently quoted, “there is no way not to take this job personally.”

we love and appreciate our clients so much. enjoy the beauty of you and your loved ones~

xoxo.

yay! good stuff! we need to get together, I hope you had a great time in CA friend.

Fulfilling a dream.

my husband, brett has always wanted to jump out of an airplane. i think he is a little crazy for that, but what do i know? i am NOT an adrenaline junkie. and my dear friend chelsea has always wanted to do the same thing. we talked about getting her and brett together to do it quite a while ago, and on May 22nd, they made it a reality. a few more people came too, and so in all, there were 6 skydivers. we went to Hook Field in Middletown, and after waiting what seemed like an eternity, ( it was in fact 6.5 hours) it was time. i have to say, i was very excited to capture it from the ground. i have no desire to do it myself, but it was amazing to see the plane climb in the sky and then suddenly the sky is littered with these little spots of color as they all came gently floating down. i loved how they looked like those tiny parachute men that we used to throw out the window when i was a kid, and watch them waft to the ground. there were some weather holds and a couple big thunderstorms blew in, so the sky was dramatic and beautiful when it was brett’s turn. when he got to the ground, he was so elated. i am thrilled he got to fulfill a dream.

if you have ever had a dream to go skydiving, you should make it a priority to go this year. it was amazing, and lifechanging for my loved ones. and it’s gotta give you courage…. after all, what could scare you after you’ve jumped out of an airplane?

there were a lot of waivers to sign.

isaac found his first four leaf clover while we waited. a good day for extra good luck.

Paula Fair - June 2, 2011 - 7:02 pm

Great pictures!!!! Skydiving definately changed my life! I am now more confident than ever in my life! And I made some new friends that day!!! Thanks, Molly and family, for being a part of it!!!!

My own alamo.

it started in August of 2007, and was excruciating by the time they diagnosed me 2 months later. Excessive sweating, severe abdominal pain, constant diarrhea, and bleeding.  after 3 nights in the hospital and a endoscopy and colonoscopy, I was told i had ulcerative colitis.  i was given information on a low fiber diet and a prescription to Asacol. this condition is chronic, and the nurse told me that i was one of the worst cases she had seen for my age. i reacted in my way, with fear and denial. i took my prescription and ate the white flour and white sugar, cooked veggies and fruits that i was instructed to eat. as i went into my first remission, the fear went away, and i rebelled by returning to my normal terrible habits; be it fried, carbonated, or chocolate-covered. i have had several flare-ups since then, and some of them have been pretty rough. The sight of blood in the toilet, and the pain would scare me back into behaving, but only until the symptoms were gone.

However, this past month has been one of the worst flares i have had, and by the grace of my Father, i have been finally able to wrap my head against how serious this is. if i didn’t make a serious change, a colostomy bag was in my future. by the recommendation of a dear friend, i picked up a book called ” Breaking the Vicious Cycle ” that introduces the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. the SCD diet is grain free, sugar free, and dairy free. and so i stepped out on this terrifying but hopeful journey. today is my 3rd day on it, and it is so so hard. i can have exactly 5 things in the intro phase: overcooked carrots, homemade apple cider, grape juice, eggs, and a variety of lean meats. one of the hardest things has been giving up soda. i drank {gulp} probably 3 a day. and the surprising thing is, i had no idea giving up sugar and caffeine cold turkey would feel so awful. my colitis is recovering by leaps and bounds- in 2 days, i have had almost no pain, and i don’t spend any more time on the toilet, crying and feeling in labor. a miracle!  but my body has crashed through sugar detox, and so the past 2 days have brought nausea, fever, headaches, fatigue, insomnia, and severe aching all over.

but i know i can do this.   because of the most amazing support system God placed in my life before i even knew i would need it. Like one of my kindred spirits that has had her own baptism by fire through a painful and nutritional battle for her son’s health. or the dear dear soul who is doing the diet with me, just to hold my hand and give me strength. many miles separate us, but i feel so much less alone because of it. or the best friends who gave up soda years ago, and promise me that i will get to the place where i don’t have to have that Coke.

and also because of you. You have read my story, and my pain, and i feel the support. thank you so much.

i love you all. xoxo.
